All models use Normally Closed (NC) control direction with integrated pump and boiler outputs. The Y-series and wireless models use screwless push-in terminals; the N-series uses solid core cable clamps. Contact the Legom Technical Team to confirm exact specifications and select the correct model for your project.
How to Select the Right Base Station
Choosing the correct base station comes down to four questions: how many zones your system has, what actuator voltage you use, whether you need cooling as well as heating, and whether thermostat cabling is practical. Confirm these parameters from your heating design before contacting the Legom team.
Number of heating zones
Count the independent thermostat-controlled rooms or areas in your system. The BS-Y6 handles 6 zones; the TCC, wireless, and BS-N1L models handle 8 zones; the BS-N1 and BS-N2 handle 10 zones. The Y-series and wireless models allow up to 2 actuators per zone, while the N-series allows up to 5 per zone for large rooms served by several manifold loops.
Actuator voltage: 230V or 24V
Most models drive standard 230V thermal actuators. If your system uses low-voltage 24V actuators, choose the BS-N1L, which has an integrated transformer that converts 230V mains to 24V DC internally, so no separate external transformer is required.
Heating only or heating and cooling
For heating-only systems, any model applies. For radiant systems that both heat in winter and cool in summer, choose the BS-N2, which adds a heat/cool changeover input and a dew point sensor input that protects against condensation when the floor is being cooled.
Wired or wireless communication
For new construction where signal cables can be installed during the build, choose a wired model. For renovations, retrofits, and heritage buildings where routing cable to each thermostat is impractical, choose the wireless 8-zone model, which uses RF communication and removes thermostat signal wiring.
All models integrate directly with Legom room thermostats and thermal actuators, and work with most standard NC thermal actuators of the matching voltage. Once you have these four values, the Legom engineering team can confirm the right model or initiate a custom development project for non-standard zone counts or voltages. Applications
Legom base stations are the central control hub wherever multiple heating or cooling zones must be managed from a single unit. By routing thermostat demand to the correct actuators and coordinating the pump and boiler, the base station replaces complex point-to-point wiring with one tidy, fail-safe controller.
Multi-Zone Underfloor Heating
The primary application. The base station connects room thermostats to the thermal actuators on the manifold, letting each room hold its own target temperature independently. Pair with Legom manifolds and thermal actuators for a complete system.
Heating and Cooling Radiant Systems
The BS-N2 runs radiant floors in heating mode in winter and cooling mode in summer through a single heat/cool changeover input, with a dew point sensor that protects floors and finishes from condensation during cooling. Ideal for reversible heat pump systems and warm, humid climates.
Low-Voltage 24V Installations
The BS-N1L drives low-voltage 24V thermal actuators via an integrated 230V-to-24V transformer, suiting installers who standardise on 24V for safety-sensitive or wet areas and for quiet, smooth actuator operation, without needing an external transformer.
Hydronic Radiator Zone Control
Used as the control center for multi-room radiator systems where each zone is governed by a thermostat and a zone valve actuator, giving independent control across the property from one hub.
Residential and Light Commercial Systems
Integrated pump and boiler outputs let the base station manage the complete heating circuit, starting the pump and boiler only when a zone calls for heat. The 8 and 10-zone models suit larger homes, apartments, and small commercial spaces.
Renovation and Retrofit Projects
The wireless 8-zone model adds room-by-room control to existing buildings without running thermostat signal cables through finished walls and floors, cutting installation time and disruption.
Listed and Heritage Buildings
Where surface cable runs are not acceptable and concealed routing is restricted by preservation rules, wireless RF thermostat communication enables zone control with minimal physical intervention.
New Construction and Control Panels
For new builds where cabling is installed during construction, the wired models provide a robust, cost-effective hub. DIN-rail mounting on the N-series lets the base station integrate cleanly into distribution panels for fast commissioning.
Frequently Asked Questions
A base station is the central wiring and control hub of a multi-zone heating system. It receives signals from room thermostats and routes switching commands to the corresponding thermal actuators on the manifold valves, opening or closing each zone based on demand. It also manages the pump and boiler outputs, starting the pump when any zone calls for heat and shutting everything down when all zones are satisfied. Without a base station, each thermostat would need to be wired independently to its actuator and to the boiler and pump circuit, which is far more complex and error-prone.
Legom is a manufacturer. Our base stations are produced at our own facility in Jiaxing, Zhejiang, China, with in-house PCB assembly, housing molding, terminal integration, transformer assembly for low-voltage models, and end-of-line functional and safety testing. We do not source finished units from third parties and resell them. Factory visits are welcome by appointment for clients who wish to audit the production process directly.
The difference is how the base station communicates with room thermostats. In the wired models, thermostat signal cables run from each room thermostat back to the base station through walls, floors, or conduit. In the wireless model, thermostat commands travel by radio frequency signal, removing these signal cables entirely. The actuator wiring from the base station to the manifold is the same in both. Wireless is preferred for renovations and retrofits; wired is preferred for new construction where cables can be installed during the build.
Match the model to the number of independent heating zones in your system. Choose the BS-Y6 for up to 6 zones. Choose the TCC wired, the wireless 8-zone, or the 24V BS-N1L for 7 or 8 zones. Choose the BS-N1 (heating) or BS-N2 (heating and cooling) for up to 10 zones. Beyond the number of zones, also confirm your actuator voltage (230V or 24V) and whether you need cooling, since these narrow the choice further.
The voltage refers to the thermal actuators the base station drives. A 230V base station switches mains-voltage actuators directly. The 24V BS-N1L uses low-voltage 24V actuators and includes an integrated transformer that steps 230V mains down to 24V DC internally, so you still connect standard mains power but the actuators run on safe low voltage. Low-voltage 24V actuators are often preferred for safety-sensitive or wet areas and for their quiet, smooth operation. You do not need a separate external transformer with the BS-N1L.
Yes. The BS-N2 is a 10-zone heating and cooling base station. It adds a 230Vac heat/cool changeover input that switches the whole system between modes, and a dew point sensor input that cuts off the cold water supply and stops the pump if condensation is detected during cooling, then resumes automatically once the risk clears. It suits reversible heat pump systems and radiant cooling in warm, humid climates.
It depends on the series. The BS-Y6, TCC, and wireless models allow up to 2 actuators per zone. The N-series (BS-N1, BS-N2, BS-N1L) allows up to 5 actuators per zone, which is useful for large rooms or open-plan areas where several manifold loops serve a single thermostat-controlled zone.
Legom base stations are configured for Normally Closed (NC) thermal actuators. In an NC system, the actuator is in its open (flow-on) position when no electrical signal is present and closes when energized by the thermostat. This means heating zones are active by default and the thermostat commands the system to stop heating once the target temperature is reached, the most common configuration for underfloor heating in Europe.
The start delay before the pump and boiler activate prevents the system from short-cycling during brief thermostat switching events and avoids conflicts between the base station's control logic and external water pump commands at startup, protecting the pump from repeated rapid start-stop sequences. The Y-series uses a fixed 2-minute delay and follow-up time. The N-series uses a 120-second delayed start plus a DIP-switch selectable shut-down delay (from 30 seconds up to 5 minutes) so installers can tune how long the circuit keeps running after the last zone is satisfied.
On the BS-N1 and BS-N1L, if no zone calls for heat for a continuous 24 hours, the base station automatically runs the circulating pump for one minute. This anti-seize function keeps the pump from getting stuck during the non-heating season, when it would otherwise sit idle for long periods, and extends its service life.
The wired models are compatible with standard thermostats and NC thermal actuators of the matching voltage (230V for most models, 24V for the BS-N1L), and integrate directly within the Legom HVAC ecosystem. Verify that your thermostat output and actuator load match the base station's rated switching capacity before installation. For the wireless model, third-party thermostat compatibility depends on the RF protocol, so confirm with the Legom team before mixing brands.
No. The base station still requires a 230V mains power cable, and the actuators on the manifold are still wired to the base station. What is wireless is the communication between the room thermostats and the base station: thermostats transmit their demand by RF rather than through a signal cable. Each wireless thermostat will also need its own power source, typically batteries.
The Y-series base stations are built to the EN 60730-2 standard for automatic electrical controls, with an integrated cable guide and strain relief that is DIN EN 60730-1 compliant. The N-series is CE approved. All models are IP20 with Class II insulation, suiting indoor installation in utility rooms, airing cupboards, and plant rooms beside the heating manifold. Compliance documents are available on request for project submission.
Yes. Legom offers full OEM and ODM customization including zone count, voltage rating (230V or 24V), control direction (NC or NO), heating or heating/cooling operation, pump and boiler delay logic, wired or wireless communication, and housing and branding. All projects are handled under strict NDA. Contact the engineering team with your zone count, communication type, voltage, and control direction to begin.
