BS-N2 10-Zone Heating & Cooling Base Station

The BS-N2 10-Zone Wired Base Station is the central connection unit for room-by-room temperature control in underfloor heating and cooling systems. Designed for 10 zones at 230V, the BS-N2 links all system components — thermostats, actuators, circulating pump, and boiler or heat pump — through a single wiring hub, with a built-in heat/cool changeover input and dew point protection for year-round radiant climate control.

Every switching command from a connected thermostat is forwarded to the matching actuators, while the voltage-free boiler/heat pump output and 230V pump output manage the circuit automatically. A heat/cool changeover input switches the whole system between modes, a dew point sensor input guards against condensation in cooling mode, and an onboard power-off switch lets installers isolate the terminals safely during wiring and service.

Key Benefits
  • 10-zone heating and cooling control – Connects up to 10 room thermostats with their actuators, giving independent temperature management in up to 10 zones from a single 230V unit, in both heating and cooling modes
  • Heat / cool changeover input – A 230Vac changeover input switches the entire system between heating and cooling; the contact opens for heating and closes for cooling, so a single manifold serves both seasons
  • Dew point sensor input – In cooling mode the dew point sensor detects condensation, cuts off the cold water supply and stops the pump, then flashes its indicator until the alarm clears, protecting floors and finishes from moisture damage
  • High actuator capacity per zone – Supports up to 5 thermal actuators on a single zone, ideal for large rooms and open-plan spaces served by multiple manifold loops under one thermostat
  • Boiler, heat pump and pump control – Voltage-free dry contact for the boiler or heat pump plus a 230V circulating pump output, with a 120-second delayed start that prevents short cycling and pump conflicts
  • Configurable shut-down delay via DIP switch – Selectable follow-up time (0s, 30s, 1min, 2min, 5min) tunes how long the pump and boiler keep running after the last zone is satisfied
  • Onboard power-off switch – Cuts all circuits behind the power port so installers can wire and service the unit safely, without disconnecting the mains upstream
  • Dual installation method – Snap onto a standard DIN rail inside a control panel or wall-mount directly using the two rear screw holes
  • Full LED status signalling – Separate indicators for power, heating, cooling, circulating pump, and dew point sensor, plus a per-zone thermostat indicator for quick diagnostics
  • Normally Closed (NC) control direction – Standard NC configuration keeps zones open (active) when no command is present, for fail-safe operation during control faults
  • Flame-retardant construction – ABS+PC flame-retardant housing at 332 × 102 × 51mm with IP20 / Class II protection and CE approval, maintenance-free in operation

Application & Use Cases
  • Combined underfloor heating and cooling systems – The primary application. The BS-N2 runs radiant floors in heating mode in winter and cooling mode in summer, switching the whole system through a single changeover input
  • Heat pump driven radiant systems – The voltage-free dry contact controls a reversible heat pump that supplies both warm and chilled water, making the BS-N2 a natural fit for modern renewable heating and cooling circuits
  • Humid climate installations – The dew point sensor input protects against condensation during cooling, which is essential in warm, humid regions where surface cooling risks moisture build-up
  • Large residential and multi-floor homes – 10 zones and up to 5 actuators per zone suit whole-house projects with many rooms and long manifold runs
  • Control panel and light commercial installations – DIN rail mounting and the onboard power-off switch make the BS-N2 easy to integrate and service inside distribution panels for offices and multi-room spaces

Installation Notes
  • Open the housing: Press the release button to open the cover to both sides before beginning any wiring
  • DIN rail mounting: Snap the base station onto a standard DIN rail inside a control panel
  • Wall mounting (screw method): Fix the unit directly to the wall using the two screw holes on the back, keeping it horizontally aligned
  • Use solid core cable sized 0.5 to 1.3mm². Measure wire lengths against the distance from each terminal to the cable clamp, fix the wires in their terminals, then clamp the cable body in place
  • Connect thermostats to the thermostat ports and actuators to the actuator ports. The BS-N2 supplies voltage to these components directly, so no separate power supply is required
  • Connect the boiler or heat pump to the voltage-free dry contact output and the circulating pump to the 230V pump output
  • Heat / cool changeover: To use the 230Vac changeover input, remove the bridge/jumper. The contact is open for heating and closed for cooling. Room thermostats should connect their CO terminal to these ports to complete the changeover
  • Dew point sensor: Remove the jumper before connecting the dew point sensor. Once fitted, it cuts the cold water supply and stops the pump whenever condensation is detected, then resumes normal operation after the alarm clears
  • Use the power-off switch to isolate the circuits during wiring. Note that the power port and the back of the switch remain live even when the switch is off, so do not touch them
  • Set the shut-down delay DIP switch to the required follow-up time (0s, 30s, 1min, 2min, or 5min)
  • Refit the upper cover along the edge of the shell and press until it clicks into place, then apply mains voltage to complete commissioning
  • Do not operate the unit outside the 0°C to +40°C work temperature range or above 90% humidity

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a heating and a heating/cooling base station?

A heating-only base station simply opens and closes zones on a demand for warmth. A heating/cooling base station like the BS-N2 adds a changeover input that flips the whole system between heating and cooling modes, plus a dew point sensor input to protect against condensation when the floor is being cooled. This lets a single radiant manifold provide both winter warmth and summer cooling from one wiring centre.

How does the heat / cool changeover work on the BS-N2?

The BS-N2 has a 230Vac changeover input. When the contact is open the system runs in heating mode; when the contact is closed it switches to cooling. To use the input you remove the factory bridge/jumper, and the room thermostats connect their CO terminal to these ports so the changeover applies across all zones.

What does the dew point sensor do?

In cooling mode, chilled water can cause condensation on cold surfaces. The dew point sensor watches for this and, when it detects moisture, cuts off the cold water supply and stops the pump while flashing its indicator. Once the condensation risk clears, the BS-N2 returns to normal operation automatically. Installing the sensor requires removing its jumper first.

How many thermostats and actuators can the BS-N2 handle?

The BS-N2 connects up to 10 room thermostats across its 10 zones, and each zone can drive up to 5 thermal actuators. That high per-zone capacity suits large rooms or open-plan areas where several manifold loops need to open together under a single thermostat.

What is the onboard power-off switch for?

The power-off switch cuts all circuits behind the power port, letting installers wire and service the unit more safely without isolating the mains upstream. Important safety note: even with the switch off, the power port and the back of the switch remain live and must not be touched.

How is the shut-down delay set?

The shut-down delay controls how long the pump and boiler keep running after the last zone stops calling. On the BS-N2 it is set with an onboard DIP switch offering 0s, 30s, 1min, 2min, or 5min. A longer delay clears residual heat or chilled water from the system and prevents short cycling.

What is the difference between the BS-N2 and the BS-N1?

Both are 10-zone 230V base stations with DIN rail or wall mounting and up to 5 actuators per zone. The BS-N1 is heating-only with a forced start-pump anti-seize function. The BS-N2 is a heating and cooling model that adds a heat/cool changeover input, a dew point sensor input, and an onboard power-off switch, making it the right choice for radiant systems that both heat and cool.
