How to Select the Right Room Thermostat

All three Legom room thermostats support water-based underfloor heating and the Legom base station. The right model depends on your system's specific control requirements. Confirm these three points before specifying:

1

What control interface does the end user prefer?

The Apus uses a rotary-push knob. This is more tactile and intuitive for users unfamiliar with digital menus, and it suits wet-hand environments. The FC and Volcano use button panels with LCD displays. These are better suited to users comfortable with digital interfaces and requiring more configuration options.

2

Does the system require automatic heating/cooling changeover?

If your system uses a central signal to switch all zones between heating and cooling mode, as in heat pump systems with seasonal changeover, specify the FC FC1D. Its CO terminal accepts a 230V signal and automatically changes the thermostat mode without user input. Neither the Apus nor the Volcano supports this function.

3

How many actuators does each zone require?

For large rooms or open-plan spaces served by multiple manifold loops from a single thermostat, specify the Apus RT-A1. It controls up to 5 thermal actuators simultaneously from one thermostat. For standard single-actuator zones, all three models are suitable. For multi-room centralized control, integrate any model with the Legom base station.

Once you have confirmed these three parameters, the Legom team can confirm the correct model and arrange samples. Contact us via WhatsApp or info@legomsmart.com.

Applications

Legom room thermostats are used wherever individual zone temperature control is required in water-based heating and cooling systems — from single-room residential installations through multi-zone commercial buildings.

Underfloor Heating Systems

The primary application for Legom room thermostats is in water-based underfloor heating systems, where each thermostat controls one or more thermal actuators on the manifold to regulate the floor circuit flow for a single zone. The thermostat senses the room air temperature (or floor surface temperature via external probe) and opens or closes the actuator to maintain the set point. The Apus RT-A1, FC FC1D, and Volcano RB-2305HT are all suited to this application. For complete system components, see also Legom's thermal actuators, manifolds, and floor heating pipes.

Heat Pump Systems with Heating and Cooling

Heat pump installations that provide both underfloor heating in winter and radiant cooling in summer require a thermostat that can switch operating modes automatically. The FC FC1D is the specified model for this application — its CO terminal accepts a 230V changeover signal from the heat pump controller, automatically switching the thermostat between heating and cooling mode without user intervention. This is particularly relevant for four-pipe fan coil systems and reversible heat pump installations in mild-climate markets.

Residential Multi-Zone Control with Base Station

For multi-room residential installations where the installer or homeowner wants centralized temperature management, all three Legom thermostats can be integrated with the Legom base station. The base station connects to the heat source (boiler or heat pump) and all zone thermostats, coordinating zone demand signals and heat source activation. This enables whole-house temperature management from a single interface while maintaining individual room temperature control at each thermostat.

Commercial and Hospitality Buildings

In hotels, serviced apartments, and small commercial buildings, room thermostats provide individual zone temperature control for each room or unit. The child lock function on the FC FC1D prevents unauthorized temperature changes by guests or building occupants — making it suited to hospitality and care facility installations where temperature limits need to be enforced. The minimal aesthetic of the Volcano RB-2305HT in White, Black, or Grey suits premium interior specification.

Fan Coil and Air Handling Units

Room thermostats can also control fan coil units in buildings without underfloor heating — using the thermostat output to control a fan coil valve or a relay that switches the fan unit. The FC FC1D's wide voltage range (100–240VAC) and CO changeover capability make it particularly suited to installations where the same fan coil serves heating and cooling from a central system. See also Legom's HVAC valve range for compatible fan coil component valves.

OEM Integration into Complete HVAC Systems

Legom supplies room thermostats to OEM system integrators who bundle thermostats with manifolds, actuators, and controls as complete underfloor heating kits. For these clients, Legom offers firmware parameter customization, private label packaging, and volume supply from 100 units. The thermostat's compatibility with Legom thermal actuators, base stations, and manifolds — all manufactured at the same facility — simplifies system-level certification and technical support for OEM kit manufacturers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Legom manufactures three room thermostat models: the Apus RT-A1 (rotary-push knob, up to 5 actuators, 230VAC), the FC FC1D (button panel, auto CO changeover, child lock, WiFi indicator, 100–240VAC), and the Volcano RB-2305HT (circular display, ±1°C accuracy, three colour variants, 100–240VAC). All three support water-based underfloor heating and cooling, NTC sensor configurations, and integration with the Legom base station for centralized multi-zone control.

The Apus RT-A1 is distinguished by its rotary-push knob interface and its capacity to control up to 5 thermal actuators simultaneously — making it the right choice for large zones or users who prefer tactile knob control. The FC FC1D is the only model with an automatic CO changeover terminal, which switches the thermostat between heating and cooling mode on a 230V signal — essential for reversible heat pump systems. It also adds child lock and WiFi indicator functions. The Volcano RB-2305HT offers the widest voltage range (100–240VAC), the highest temperature accuracy (±1°C), and the broadest colour selection (White, Black, Grey) in a minimal circular-display aesthetic.

Yes. All three Legom room thermostats are designed specifically for water-based underfloor heating systems. They are compatible with Legom's own thermal actuators (M30 × 1.5 thread, NC and NO types) as well as third-party actuators with standard wiring. The NTC sensor supports both room air temperature sensing and floor surface temperature sensing via external probe — the latter being the standard mode for underfloor heating where floor surface temperature limits need to be monitored and capped independently of room air temperature.

The Legom base station is a central controller that connects to all room thermostats in a multi-zone system and manages heat source activation based on aggregate zone demand. Without a base station, each thermostat operates as a standalone controller — opening and closing its actuator independently based on room temperature. This is sufficient for simple single-zone or multi-zone systems where the boiler or heat pump is controlled separately. The base station is needed when you want centralized demand management across all zones — preventing the heat source from running when no zone actually requires heat, and coordinating changeover signals in heating/cooling systems. All three Legom thermostats are base station compatible. See the Legom base station page for full specifications.

All Legom room thermostats are CE and RoHS certified. CE certification confirms compliance with European safety, electromagnetic compatibility, and low-voltage directive requirements. RoHS confirms that the electronic components comply with restrictions on hazardous substances. Certification documentation is available upon request for regulatory submission and procurement compliance purposes.

Yes. Legom thermostats use a standard relay output that is compatible with most 230VAC thermal actuators regardless of brand, as long as the actuator's electrical rating falls within the thermostat's output capacity. Both NC (normally closed) and NO (normally open) actuator configurations are supported. The Apus RT-A1 explicitly supports both NC and NO configurations and can drive up to 5 actuators simultaneously. For confirmation of compatibility with a specific third-party actuator, contact the Legom technical team with the actuator's wiring diagram and electrical specification.

Yes. Legom supplies room thermostats to OEM clients under private label with custom packaging, product labels, and installation documentation. Firmware parameter defaults can be adjusted to match your system's requirements. Housing colour, label printing, and display language customization are available subject to minimum order quantities. All OEM projects are handled under confidentiality agreements. Contact the Legom sales team via WhatsApp or info@legomsmart.com to discuss your OEM requirements.
