BS-N1L 8-Zone 24V Base Station

The BS-N1L 8-Zone Wired Base Station is the central connection unit for room-by-room temperature control in low-voltage 24V underfloor heating systems. Designed for 8 heating zones, the BS-N1L includes an integrated transformer that converts 230V mains to safe 24V DC for the actuators, linking thermostats, actuators, circulating pump, and boiler or heat pump through a single wiring hub.

Every switching command from a connected thermostat is forwarded to the matching 24V actuators, while the voltage-free boiler/heat pump output and pump control manage the heating circuit automatically. With a configurable shut-down delay via DIP switch, a forced start-pump anti-seize function, LED indicators for every function, and two mounting options (DIN rail or wall screw), the BS-N1L is built for safe, reliable commissioning wherever low-voltage 24V actuators are preferred.

Key Benefits
  • Low-voltage 24V control with integrated transformer – A built-in transformer converts 230V mains to 24V DC, so the actuators run on safe low voltage without needing a separate external power supply
  • 8-zone room-by-room temperature control – Connects up to 8 room thermostats with their actuators, enabling independent temperature management in up to 8 separate heating zones from a single unit
  • High actuator capacity per zone – Supports up to 5 thermal actuators on a single zone, ideal for large rooms and open-plan spaces served by multiple manifold loops under one thermostat
  • Boiler, heat pump and pump control – Voltage-free dry contact for the boiler or heat pump plus a pump control output, with a 120-second delayed start that prevents short cycling and pump conflicts at startup
  • Configurable shut-down delay via DIP switch – Selectable follow-up time (30s, 1min, 2min, 5min) lets the installer tune how long the pump and boiler keep running after the last zone is satisfied
  • Forced start-pump anti-seize function – If no zone calls for heat within 24 hours, the base station automatically runs the water pump for one minute, preventing the pump from seizing during the non-heating season
  • Dual installation method – Snap onto a standard DIN rail inside a control panel or wall-mount directly using the two rear screw holes
  • Full LED status signalling – Separate indicators for power, heating, and circulating pump, plus a per-zone thermostat indicator for at-a-glance diagnostics
  • Normally Closed (NC) control direction – Standard NC configuration keeps heating zones open (active) when no command is present, for fail-safe warmth during control faults
  • Flame-retardant construction – ABS+PC flame-retardant housing at 332 × 102 × 51mm with IP20 / Class II protection and CE approval, maintenance-free in operation

Application & Use Cases
  • Low-voltage 24V underfloor heating systems – The primary application. The BS-N1L is the central hub for systems that use 24V DC thermal actuators, which are often specified for their low-voltage safety and quieter, smoother operation
  • Residential heating where 24V actuators are preferred – Many installers and system designers standardise on 24V actuators for wet zones and safety-sensitive areas; the BS-N1L supports these directly with its onboard transformer
  • Whole-house systems up to 8 zones – Eight zones and up to 5 actuators per zone cover most single-family homes with multiple rooms and manifold loops
  • Heat pump integrated heating circuits – The voltage-free dry contact output activates a boiler or heat pump only when at least one zone calls for heat
  • Control panel installations – DIN rail mounting lets the BS-N1L integrate cleanly into distribution panels alongside other 24V control equipment

Installation Notes
  • Open the housing: Press the release button to open the cover to both sides before beginning any wiring
  • DIN rail mounting: Snap the base station onto a standard DIN rail inside a control panel
  • Wall mounting (screw method): Fix the unit directly to the wall using the two screw holes on the back, keeping it horizontally aligned
  • Use solid core cable sized 0.5 to 1.3mm². Measure wire lengths against the distance from each terminal to the cable clamp, fix the wires in their terminals, then tighten the cable clamp screws to lock the cable
  • Connect 230V mains to the supply ports. The integrated transformer then supplies 24V DC to the actuator terminals automatically, so no external 24V power supply is required
  • Connect thermostats to the thermostat ports and 24V actuators to the actuator ports. Verify that your actuators are the 24V DC NC type before connecting
  • Connect the boiler or heat pump to the voltage-free dry contact output and the circulating pump to the pump output
  • Set the shut-down delay DIP switch to the required follow-up time (30s, 1min, 2min, or 5min) for your system
  • Refit the upper cover along the edge of the shell and press until it clicks into place, then apply mains voltage to complete commissioning
  • Do not operate the unit outside the 0°C to +50°C work temperature range or above 80% humidity

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a 24V and a 230V base station?

The voltage refers to the thermal actuators the base station drives. A 230V base station switches mains-voltage actuators directly, while a 24V base station like the BS-N1L uses low-voltage 24V actuators. The BS-N1L includes an integrated transformer that steps 230V mains down to 24V DC, so you connect standard mains power but the actuators run on safe low voltage. Low-voltage 24V actuators are often preferred for safety-sensitive or wet areas and for their quiet, smooth operation.

Do I need a separate transformer for the BS-N1L?

No. The transformer is built into the BS-N1L. You connect 230V mains to the supply ports and the unit outputs 24V DC to the actuator terminals internally, which simplifies wiring and saves panel space compared with systems that need an external transformer.

How many thermostats and actuators can the BS-N1L handle?

The BS-N1L connects up to 8 room thermostats across its 8 zones, and each zone can drive up to 5 thermal actuators. This high per-zone capacity is useful for large rooms or open-plan areas where several manifold loops need to open together under a single thermostat.

What is the forced start-pump function for?

If none of the zones call for heat for a continuous 24 hours, the BS-N1L automatically runs the circulating pump for one minute. This anti-seize function keeps the pump from getting stuck during the non-heating season, when it would otherwise sit idle for long periods, and extends its service life.

Can the BS-N1L control a heat pump as well as a boiler?

Yes. The BS-N1L provides a voltage-free (dry contact) output that can switch either a boiler or a heat pump, so it suits both traditional and renewable heating circuits. A 120-second delayed start protects the heat pump and water pump from rapid start-stop cycling at commissioning.

What is the difference between the BS-N1L and the BS-N1?

Both are heating base stations with DIN rail or wall mounting, a forced start-pump function, and up to 5 actuators per zone. The key differences are voltage and zone count: the BS-N1L is a low-voltage 24V model with 8 zones and an integrated 230V-to-24V transformer, while the BS-N1 is a 230V model with 10 zones. Choose the BS-N1L when your system uses 24V actuators, and the BS-N1 when it uses 230V actuators. Contact the Legom team to match the right base station to your project.
