HFT30001 Temperature Limiting Valve, G3/4
The Legom HFT30001 Temperature Limiting Valve is a thermostatic mixing valve designed for water heater installations, delivering mixed water at a preset safe outlet temperature by automatically blending hot and cold water supply. With a standard exit temperature of 52°C and a temperature adjustment range of 20–60°C (with narrower preset ranges available), the HFT30001 prevents scalding at hot water outlets without requiring any electrical connection or external control. The handwheel allows manual adjustment of the target mixed water temperature across the available range.
Manufactured from 57-3 copper with nickel plating, the HFT30001 features a G3/4 internal thread connection and an ABS black silk-screen handwheel. It operates across a working pressure range of 0.03–1 MPa with an ideal range of 0.1–0.5 MPa, covering standard domestic water supply pressures. Cold water inlet temperature range is 5–29°C and hot water inlet range is 30–99°C, covering electric, gas, and solar water heater output temperatures.
Key Benefits
- Standard exit temperature of 52°C – Factory-calibrated default outlet temperature of 52°C provides immediate anti-scald protection upon installation without requiring user adjustment, while remaining within the range that eliminates Legionella risk in storage water heaters
- Temperature control accuracy of ±2°C – Consistent mixed water delivery temperature within ±2°C of the set point across varying supply pressure and temperature conditions, providing reliable user comfort and safety performance
- Adjustable temperature range of 20–60°C – The handwheel allows adjustment across the full range, with factory-preset narrower ranges (35–55°C, 40–50°C, 30–60°C) available for specific applications requiring restricted adjustment access
- No electricity required – Self-acting thermostatic operation powered entirely by the differential temperature of the hot and cold water supplies, with no electrical connection, sensor, or controller needed
- 57-3 copper body with nickel plating – High-quality copper alloy body with nickel surface treatment provides corrosion resistance and a premium appearance at the installation point
- Wide pressure range of 0.03–1 MPa – Operates across a very wide supply pressure range, including low-pressure gravity-fed systems (from 0.03 MPa) and standard mains pressure systems up to 1 MPa
- Compatible with all domestic water heater types – Hot water inlet range of 30–99°C covers electric storage, gas instantaneous, solar thermal, and heat pump water heater output temperatures
- Customizable preset temperature ranges – OEM orders can specify a factory-preset temperature range (35–55°C, 40–50°C, 30–60°C, or custom) to restrict user-adjustable range for safety or application requirements

Application & Use Cases
- Electric storage water heater outlets – Installed on the mixed water outlet of electric storage water heaters where storage temperature is set above 60°C for Legionella control but delivered temperature must be limited to 50–55°C for safe use at showers, baths, and basins
- Solar thermal water heating systems – Solar storage tanks regularly reach very high temperatures during peak solar gain. The HFT30001 limits the delivered water temperature to the set point regardless of storage tank temperature, protecting users from scalding when high solar temperatures are present
- Gas instantaneous water heaters – Some gas instantaneous heaters have limited precision temperature control. The HFT30001 provides a secondary temperature cap that prevents delivery of water above the set point even if the heater produces output above the intended temperature
- Low-pressure gravity-fed hot water systems – The 0.03 MPa minimum working pressure allows the HFT30001 to operate in gravity-fed hot water systems common in older buildings and rural installations where mains pressure is not available
- Domestic hot water anti-scald protection – Applied in family homes, apartments, and accommodation facilities where safe hot water delivery temperature must be maintained consistently for all users regardless of storage tank temperature fluctuations
Installation Notes
- Install the HFT30001 with the hot water supply connected to the hot inlet (H), cold water supply to the cold inlet (C), and the mixed water outlet (M) connected to the distribution pipework serving the fixtures
- The G3/4 internal thread connections require male-threaded fittings on the supply and outlet pipes. Use appropriate thread sealant on all connections
- Install at the water heater outlet or at a central point serving multiple fixtures — not at individual fixture outlets, where a separate TMV per fixture would be needed
- The valve functions correctly across the full 0.03–1 MPa pressure range but performs optimally at 0.1–0.5 MPa. At very low pressures (below 0.1 MPa), temperature accuracy may be reduced
- After installation, run hot water from a downstream fixture and verify the outlet temperature using a thermometer to confirm the valve is delivering water at the intended set temperature
- To adjust the set temperature, turn the handwheel — clockwise to decrease temperature, counterclockwise to increase. Allow the system to stabilise for at least 1 minute after each adjustment before measuring the outlet temperature
- Flush the pipework before installation to remove debris that could damage the thermostatic cartridge inside the valve
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between a temperature limiting valve and a thermostatic mixing valve (TMV)?
The terms are used interchangeably in many markets. Both types blend hot and cold water to deliver a safe mixed temperature at the outlet. The HFT30001 is a thermostatic mixing valve with a user-adjustable handwheel that allows the outlet temperature to be set anywhere in the available range. In some markets, “temperature limiting valve” specifically refers to a valve with a factory-set or restricted-adjustment temperature cap to prevent users from setting the outlet above a safe limit. The HFT30001’s customizable preset range options (35–55°C, 40–50°C) allow it to function as a true temperature-limited valve when ordered with a restricted range.
Why is the standard exit temperature set to 52°C?
52°C is a commonly specified safe hot water delivery temperature that balances two competing requirements: high enough to remain above the Legionella growth range (20–45°C) even with some temperature drop through the distribution pipe, and low enough to significantly reduce scalding risk compared to untempered hot water at 60–80°C storage temperature. At 52°C, scalding can still occur with prolonged contact, so many installers choose a lower set point of 45–50°C for vulnerable user applications such as aged care, childcare, and hospitals.
Can the handwheel adjustment range be restricted for safety?
Yes. OEM orders can be specified with a factory-preset temperature range of 35–55°C, 40–50°C, or 30–60°C that mechanically limits how far the handwheel can be turned, preventing users from setting the outlet temperature above the maximum of the preset range. This is particularly relevant for installations in facilities serving vulnerable users where unrestricted temperature adjustment by occupants is a safety risk. Contact the Legom team to specify the required preset range when ordering.
Does the HFT30001 work with heat pump water heaters?
Yes. Heat pump water heaters typically produce storage temperatures of 55–70°C, which falls within the hot water inlet range of 30–99°C. The HFT30001 will blend this hot water with cold supply water to deliver the set mixed temperature, functioning identically to its use with electric or gas water heaters. The valve’s operation is independent of the heat source type — it responds to the temperature of the water entering the hot inlet, regardless of how that water was heated.
What maintenance does the HFT30001 require?
The thermostatic cartridge inside the valve should be inspected annually. In hard water areas, scale can accumulate on the cartridge and reduce temperature control accuracy or cause the valve to stick at a fixed position. If outlet temperature becomes inconsistent or the handwheel becomes stiff, the cartridge may require descaling or replacement. Contact the Legom team for cartridge replacement specifications.
