930001NT Dynamic Balancing Valve

The Legom 930001NT Dynamic Balancing Valve is a dual-function HVAC control valve that combines electric on/off switching and self-acting dynamic flow balancing in a single compact unit. Designed primarily for fan coil unit control in HVAC systems, it opens and closes in response to a room temperature controller signal via its AC 220V electric actuator, while simultaneously maintaining constant flow within the design flow range regardless of system pressure fluctuations — all with a flow deviation of ≤5%.

Unlike separate installations of a flow balancing valve plus a zone control valve, the 930001NT integrates both functions in one body: the electric drive handles on/off control from the thermostat, and the dynamic balance valve body automatically compensates for differential pressure changes when the valve is open. Available in three pressure differential variants covering 20–150 kPa, 25–240 kPa, and 30–300 kPa, with a flow range of 0.45–1.98 m³/h, PN25 working pressure, and an operating temperature range of -10°C to 120°C. Valve body in brass, valve core in stainless steel, IP44 rated.

Key Benefits
  • Dual function — electric switching and dynamic balancing in one valve – Replaces the separate combination of a zone control valve plus a dynamic balancing valve with a single compact unit, reducing installed cost, space requirement, and potential leak points in the piping system
  • Thermostat-controlled electric switching at AC 220V – Opens and closes on command from a room temperature controller, enabling room-by-room on/off zone control of the fan coil circuit with direct compatibility with standard HVAC thermostat outputs
  • Self-acting dynamic balancing when open – When the valve is in the open position, the internal dynamic balance mechanism automatically maintains constant flow within the design range regardless of differential pressure fluctuations in the system caused by other zones opening or closing
  • Factory-set to design flow – The valve can be preset at the factory to the specific design flow required by the end equipment, ensuring the terminal always receives its correct flow rate without commissioning adjustment on site
  • Flow deviation ≤5% – Tight flow accuracy across the full working pressure differential range, supporting precise temperature control and energy-efficient system operation
  • Three pressure differential variants – Available for differential pressure ranges of 20–150 kPa, 25–240 kPa, and 30–300 kPa, covering different system pressure conditions and enabling correct valve selection for the specific installation
  • Wide temperature range -10°C to 120°C – Compatible with chilled water cooling, low-temperature heating, and high-temperature heating systems, covering all standard HVAC applications in a single product range
  • Stainless steel valve core – Corrosion-resistant internals extend service life in both heating and cooling water circuits with varying water chemistry
  • IP44 protection – Actuator rated for indoor installation in HVAC plant rooms and ceiling voids with protection against solid objects and water splashing

Application & Use Cases
  • Fan coil unit zone control in commercial HVAC systems – The primary application. Each FCU is controlled by a room thermostat connected to the 930001NT’s electric actuator, which opens the valve when heating or cooling is needed and closes it when the setpoint is reached — while the dynamic balancing function ensures design flow is maintained regardless of what other FCU zones are doing
  • Multi-zone variable flow HVAC systems – In systems where multiple zones operate independently, the dynamic balancing function prevents hydraulic interaction between zones — a zone that opens does not starve other zones, and a zone that closes does not cause overpressure in remaining open zones
  • District heating and cooling terminal connections – Applied at each terminal connection point in district energy networks where supply pressure fluctuates with overall network demand, ensuring each terminal consistently receives its design flow
  • Regional zone control applications – Used in larger HVAC systems where groups of terminals or floors are controlled as a single zone, with the 930001NT providing both the on/off switching and hydraulic balancing for the zone connection
  • Chilled water fan coil systems – The -10°C to 120°C temperature range and stainless steel valve core make the 930001NT equally suited to chilled water cooling circuits in summer and hot water heating circuits in winter, enabling year-round use of the same valve

Installation Notes
  • The actuator must be installed horizontally — it must not be inverted (upside down). The valve body itself can be installed horizontally or vertically, but the actuator orientation is fixed
  • Use only standard G thread (parallel pipe thread) connections. Do not use taper thread fittings — the valve body threads are designed for G thread only and taper thread connections will damage the valve body
  • Clean the valve and pipeline thoroughly before installation to remove grit, scale, and debris that could damage the dynamic balance mechanism or contaminate the valve seat
  • Insulate the pipeline and valve body as required for the application, but do not wrap insulation around the actuator. The actuator requires ambient air circulation for normal operation and heat dissipation
  • Install the valve with the actuator accessible for wiring, commissioning, and future maintenance. Do not install in inaccessible ceiling voids without provision for access
  • Connect the actuator to the AC 220V room thermostat output according to the wiring diagram. Ensure the thermostat output rating is compatible with the actuator’s electrical load
  • Select the correct pressure differential variant (20–150, 25–240, or 30–300 kPa) for the expected differential pressure at the installation point before ordering
  • Refer to the installation diagram showing the typical fan coil unit configuration — the 930001NT is installed on the supply or return connection at the base of the FCU, below the coil

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the 930001NT and the 930005NT?

Both valves provide dynamic flow balancing, but they serve different roles. The 930005NT is a purely mechanical self-acting flow balancing valve that maintains constant flow passively without any electrical connection — it is permanently open and balances flow continuously. The 930001NT adds an electric actuator that opens and closes the valve in response to a room thermostat signal, combining zone on/off control with dynamic balancing in a single device. Choose the 930005NT when the flow path should always be open and only balancing is required. Choose the 930001NT when the circuit must also be switched on and off by a thermostat, as in fan coil zone control.

How do I select the correct pressure differential variant?

The three variants differ in the differential pressure range across which dynamic balancing is active: 20–150 kPa, 25–240 kPa, or 30–300 kPa. Select the variant whose pressure range covers the expected differential pressure at the valve’s installation point under all system operating conditions — including when other zones are fully open (lowest pressure) and when all other zones are closed (highest pressure). If the differential pressure exceeds the variant’s upper limit, the valve will no longer balance actively and flow will increase with pressure. Contact the Legom team if system pressure differential data is not available.

Can the 930001NT be factory-set to a specific design flow?

Yes. The valve can be preset at the factory to the specific design flow required by the end equipment within the flow range of 0.45–1.98 m³/h (0.45–1.76 m³/h for the 30–300 kPa variant). This eliminates the need for on-site flow commissioning and ensures the terminal always receives its correct design flow from the moment of installation. Specify the required design flow when placing an OEM or project order.

What thermostat output is compatible with the 930001NT actuator?

The 930001NT actuator operates on AC 220V. It is compatible with room thermostats that provide a 220V switching output to control zone valves — the standard configuration in European HVAC systems. Thermostats with low-voltage (24V) or dry contact outputs are not directly compatible and would require a relay or signal converter. Verify thermostat output voltage before wiring.

Why is the actuator not allowed to be wrapped in insulation?

The electric actuator generates a small amount of heat during operation. Enclosing it in insulation traps this heat and can cause the actuator motor and electronics to overheat, shortening service life and potentially causing failure. The insulation should cover the valve body and pipework up to the actuator mounting point, with the actuator itself left exposed to ambient air for natural cooling.
